Uniforms
by Cubmaster Jason

Full cub scout uniforms are available for purchase locally at the Aloha Council Scout Shop. Scoutstuff.com is the BSA's online store where you can purchase things not available in the store.

Hawaii Kai Pack 101 encourages scouts to wear their full uniform at Pack meetings and various Pack events.  We highly believe getting all the boys in uniform promotes cohesion, equality, and develops a sense of belonging to something greater.

Aloha Council is located on 42 Puiwa Road, across the parking lot of Nuuanu  Valley park.
Scout Shop Hours:  Monday - Friday 8:30AM - 5:00PM, Saturday 10:00AM - 3:00PM, Closed Sundays & Holidays
Phone: (808) 595-6366

Here's what you'll need from top to bottom:

Scouts in Field Uniform/Class A

Field Uniform/Class A
Rank cap
Rank neckerchief
Neckerchief slide
Purple world crest scout patch
Aloha Council patch
Red "101" numbers
Short sleeve Cub Scout shirt
Cub Scout shorts or pants
Belt
Socks (low cut or high cut based on preference)
Pack T-shirt (available at the Pack)

Wolf Den in Activity Uniform/Class B

Activity Uniform/Class B
Rank cap/headwear as instructed
Pack 101 T-shirt
Cub scout shorts/other shorts as instructed
Appropriate footwear as instructed

Download the uniform inspection sheet to see where the patches go, or check out this interactive website.  Our recommendation is to buy big and let your son grow into it.

The full blue Cub Scout uniform is referred to as the "Field Uniform" or Class A.
If an event calls for the "Activity Uniform", it refers to the Pack T-shirt and shorts, also called the Class B uniform.

I don't recommend the switchback/convertible pants, and I  don't think they're available at council anymore.

You'll also need the Cub Scout Handbook.  I also recommend the nylon book cover since the paper book covers get torn easily.

If you're great at sewing, that'll save you some money.  An alterations store will charge $2-3 per patch.

Kids lose the neckerchief slide easy when they start running around.  I  recommend a black hinge style paper clip to help hold the neckerchief in, a large rubber band,  or something or something similiar to that effect.  I don't recommend tying the neckerchief into a knot to since  it could be a choking hazard.

The total approximate cost for a new uniform is $100, but well worth the investment!

Informed Consent, Release Agreement and Medical History Forms
by Cubmaster Jason

The Scouting adventure, camping trips, high-adventure excursions, and having fun are important to everyone in Scouting—and so is your safety and well-being. Completing the Annual Health and Medical Record is the first step in making sure you have a great Scouting experience.

Upon entering the unit, Scouts and volunteer leaders will be asked to fill out the Annual Health and Medical Record which comes in three parts.
  • Part A is an informed consent, release agreement, and authorization that needs to be signed by every participant (or a parent and/or legal guardian for all youth under 18).
  • Part B is general information and a health history.
  • Part C is your pre-participation physical certification.  A pre-participation physical is needed for resident, tour, or trek camps or for a Scouting event of more than 72 hours. The exam needs to be completed by a certified and licensed physician (MD, DO), nurse practitioner, or physician assistant. If your camp has provided you with any supplemental risk information, or if your plans include attending one of the four national high-adventure bases, share the venue’s risk advisory with your medical provider when you are having your physical exam.
Both parts A and B need to be completed annually.

Note that Part C only needs to be completed prior to any overnight camps.  My recommendation is to deliver or fax  the immunization part of B and all of Part C to your child's physician as soon as possible to get this on record.  It creates some stress to get these forms done one to two weeks prior to the event at the last second!  Hold on to the record until your leader collects it from you.

If you cannot get yourself or your child to a physician easily, you may want to consider a walk-in clinic like CVS' Minute Clinic, where you can get a "camp physical" and necessary immunizations at a reasonable cost.  They also take most insurances.

This information is used by Scouting leaders  to be able to respond quickly, appropriately and with all possible information to medical emergencies.

Youth Protection Training

The Boy Scouts of America places the greatest importance on creating the most secure environment possible for our youth members. To maintain such an environment, the BSA developed numerous procedural and leadership selection policies and provides parents and leaders with resources for the Cub Scout, Boy Scout, and Venturing programs.

Parents who participate at Aloha Council activities must complete this training.

The YPT is an online course designed to uniformly teach both leaders and parents the rules of adult-Scout interactions.  Learn more about BSA's YPT at their website.

Follow these instructions to complete the YPT.

How to take Youth Protection Online Training

1. In your internet browser (Chrome or Firefox preferred) enter my.scouting.org

2. Enter your login information to open your account.  If you had a previous myscouting.org account that login information will work here. If you do not have an account please set one up.

3. After logging in click the youth protection logo to be taken to your training dashboard.

4. Click the ‘Take Course’ option for the youth protection training you need.

5. Select the language you wish to take the training in.

6. After completing the course, please print a copy of your certificate of completion.

Some Notes:
If you have linked your membership ID number to your account, your training will automatically
update at the council office.

If you are a new member or you have not entered your membership ID number into
my.scouting.org, you will need to submit your YPT certificate to the council for training
validation. You may bring it in, mail it in, or email it to membership@seattlebsa.org.

You can re-print your YPT certificate at any time by logging into your account, and going to the
training dashboard.
